Yes, a while ago, President Yoon Suk-yeol held his first national briefing.

At this event, he mentioned that “Based on the physical exploration results, there is a high possibility that there is a significant amount of oil and gas buried in the sea in front of Yeongil Bay in Pohang.”

“It is a result of a physical exploration deep analysis entrusted to the U.S. ‘ActGeo’ with a judgment that there is a high possibility of more oil and gas fields around the East Sea gas field by February 2023,” he said.

“He explained that recently, the results showed a high likelihood of oil and gas reserves totaling 14 billion barrels, which went through verification by research institutions and experts.”

The government assesses that the country can use the amount of natural gas for up to 29 years and oil for over 4 years.

President Yoon stated, “It is time to move on to the exploration drilling stage to confirm the actual size of the reserves. We need to drill at least five exploration wells, with each costing over 100 billion won.”

He announced that the exploration drilling plan for deep-sea oil and gas fields has been approved.

President Yoon mentioned that starting the first drilling operation by the end of this year, results are expected by the first half of next year.

That concludes the update from the Blue House. (onepunch@yna.co.kr)
