, ‘The People’s Power leadership is expanding its reach by meeting with former presidents and attending debates with journalists. As the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol is coming to a close, they are listening to voices from various sectors.’,

On the 17th, Kwon Young-se, the emergency response committee chairman of the People’s Power, attended a Kwanhun Club debate, which is a gathering of current and former journalists held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. During his keynote speech, Chairman Kwon highlighted ‘national stability’ as a key task. He pointed out, “The most important task moving forward is to unite the divided public sentiment and minimize national chaos after the result of the presidential impeachment trial is announced.”

To this end, Kwon stressed the need for the Constitutional Court’s impeachment trial to be fair. He mentioned a public opinion survey indicating that over 40% believe the trial is unfair, expressing concern that the trial ruling might lead to greater conflict rather than resolving disputes. He asked the Constitutional Court judges to proceed fairly.

Kwon advised the political circle to focus on the state and the people rather than ideology. He assessed that fundamental reforms are necessary to prepare for uncertainties such as China’s ‘deep shock’ and the post-Trump administration in the U.S. He stated, “There are urgent tasks like labor market reform and promoting technological innovation,” and declared his commitment to presenting a policy vision for sustainable development with a dire determination “to redesign the nation’s blueprint.”

In particular, he promised to focus on redesigning and investing in the national power grid. Kwon emphasized, “Ample and stable power supply is an essential condition for the advancement of the semiconductor and AI industries,” and urged active investment in projects critical to the nation’s future in the era of the AI revolution.

Meanwhile, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People’s Power, will visit the Cheonggye Foundation in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to meet former President Lee Myung-bak. This is the first visit to a former president since he took office as floor leader last December. Kwon previously served as the legal secretary in the Presidential Secretary’s Office during the Lee Myung-bak administration. After entering the 18th National Assembly, he was categorized as a pro-Lee Myung-bak lawmaker.

Kwon is expected to seek advice from the former president regarding the December 3 martial law crisis and the political atmosphere surrounding President Yoon’s impeachment. It is understood that he will listen to opinions on ways to unify the divided national opinion and the direction the party should take after the impeachment trial.
