Prime Minister Han Duck-soo visited a hospital ship that circulates around island regions to encourage the medical staff and stated, “We will work with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and other related departments to prepare various support plans so that the hospital ship can set sail tirelessly.”
Prime Minister Han visited the newly constructed ‘Hospital Ship 511′ at the Yeosu Port in Jeollanam-do this morning (29th), emphasizing that “the hospital ship is the guardian of health for residents of island villages in medical blind spots.”
Jeollanam-do, having the most inhabited islands nationwide with 272 locations, operates one hospital ship each from the Yeosu area and the Mokpo area to take care of the health of island residents who find it difficult to visit hospitals.
Prime Minister Han mentioned that “the role of hospital ships is very precious because island residents either lack medical facilities or they are insufficient.”
He continued, stating that “the government is continuously pushing forward with healthcare reform amidst challenges to protect citizens’ health and build a sustainable, high-quality medical system,” adding that “reviving essential and regional healthcare and reducing medical blind spots is a fundamental duty of the government to safeguard the health and lives of its people.”
After visiting the hospital ship, Prime Minister Han also posted on Facebook, expressing gratitude to the staff of 511 for protecting the residents in medical blind spots and promising diligent government support to ensure the hospital ship continues its operations without pause.
