, After the June 3 local elections, a public opinion poll released on the 10th showed that President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating for state affairs has dropped by nearly 10 percentage points. Although the Democratic Party secured 12 out of 16 metropolitan mayor positions in the elections, unexpected results such as losing the Seoul mayoral race, considered the biggest battleground, appear to have influenced the president’s approval rating. The gap in support rates between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party has also narrowed to within 1 percentage point.’,
,
, ‘According to a survey conducted by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) on 1,002 people aged 18 and over nationwide on the 8th and 9th, the positive evaluation of the president’s state affairs dropped by 9.4% points from two weeks ago to 50.4%. This is the largest decline among surveys conducted by KSOI this year. The negative evaluation rose by 10.5% points to 45.7% compared to the previous survey.’,
,
, “The most cited reason for the positive evaluation was ‘economic recovery’ at 22.5%, followed by ‘diplomacy and security’ (11.0%), ‘welfare and labor’ (9.1%), and ‘eradication of rebellious forces’ (4.7%). The top reason for negative evaluation was ‘eradication of rebellious forces’ (18.7%).”,
,
, ‘KSOI interpreted that the decline in the president’s governance evaluation was influenced by the ruling party’s victory in the local elections, but failure to meet expectations in key battlegrounds like the Seoul mayoral race and the parliamentary by-elections. They further stated that the decline in positive evaluation was particularly significant among the 2030 generation, conservatives, centrists, and in the regions of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, which might have been partially affected by the gathering momentum of the People Power Party supporters at the end of the election.’,
,
, ‘The Democratic Party’s support rate also fell by 4.7 percentage points from two weeks ago, recording 38.6%. In contrast, support for the People Power Party rose by 6.5 percentage points to 38.1%. The gap in support rates between the two parties is just 0.5 percentage points, the smallest this year.’,
,
, ‘The concurrent decline in support for President Lee and the Democratic Party is confirmed by other surveys as well. A poll conducted by Realmeter at the request of the Energy Economics Newspaper from the 1st to 2nd and 4th to 5th of the month with 2,013 voters nationwide aged 18 and over, and announced on the 8th, found that the positive evaluation of the president’s performance fell by 3.9 percentage points compared to the previous week to 55.2%. The negative evaluation rose by 4.2 percentage points to 41.0% compared to the previous survey. Realmeter analyzed this as being compounded by administrative responsibility due to a ballot paper shortage crisis and a burgeoning government scrutiny due to the Democratic Party’s failure to reclaim the Seoul mayoral position, as well as the negative impact of a sharp rise in the exchange rate later in the week, leading to a significant drop in support rates after the local elections.’,
