The Presidential Office stated, “The impeachment grounds for insurrection have been withdrawn, and the National Assembly’s resolution is back to square one… A re-vote is necessary.”

The presidential office stated that the National Assembly must reconsider the impeachment motion since the Assembly’s impeachment committee effectively withdrew the insurrection charge against President Yoon Suk-yeol. A senior official from the presidential office highlighted that since the impeachment motion against President Yoon has been submitted for constitutional review, pursuing the insurrection charge as intended by the submitters requires a re-vote by the Assembly. The official pointed out that the insurrection charge is a core aspect of the impeachment case and cannot be compared to the removal of the bribery charge in the impeachment process of former President Park Geun-hye. The senior official added that until a decision is made on the impeachment trial, the president should receive protection. Additionally, the official mentioned that there should be accountability for the withdrawal of the 202 Security Battalion during the attempted execution of an arrest warrant against President Yoon.
