The People Power Party’s Chief Spokesman Park Sung-hoon commented on the special investigation into the alleged insurrection, stating, “The investigation will be remembered in history as a political special investigation that was mobilized to oppress the opposition and ultimately nullified in front of the court.”
In his statement, Park mentioned, “Today’s announcement is more like a preview of a ‘second special investigation’ targeting next year’s local elections, or a political briefing designed to build justification for an additional special investigation, rather than a conclusion of the investigation.”
Park criticized the special investigation team for using provocative expressions such as “preparation for martial law since October 2023,” “attempt to monopolize power,” and “objective to eliminate opposing forces.” He questioned the persuasiveness of what he called an “investigation based on mere speculation” without concrete evidence in a court of law.
He continued, “Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok’s investigation, characterized by ‘fabricating an insurrection,’ has already shown its results. Only three out of nine requested arrest warrants, including one for former President Yoon Seok-yeol, were issued, making the issuance rate just 33.3%.”
Park further claimed, “In particular, the arrest warrants indiscriminately requested by the special prosecutor to connect the opposition party as accomplices in the insurrection were repeatedly dismissed by the court. It is a ‘typical targeted special investigation for suppressing the opposition,’ where the conclusion was predetermined before evidence.”
Concluding his statement, he emphasized, “The witch-hunting special investigation without evidence or a conclusion ends here. If the Democratic Party truly has the right to discuss special investigations, it should prioritize an investigation into the alleged collusion between the Democratic Party and the Unification Church, rather than a second special investigation targeting the opposition.”
