The People Power Party responds to the special investigation team’s raid regarding the insurrection, calling it “crude violence by political thugs disguised as the law.”

Opposition to Search Attempts in the Office of the Floor Leader… “To Quickly File a Complaint Against Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok”

Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, criticized the special prosecutor’s attempt to search the offices of the floor leader and the administrative office, calling it “crude violence by political gangsters disguised as law.” The People Power Party also announced its intention to file a complaint against Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok, who is investigating charges of rebellion and treason against former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

In an emergency supreme council meeting held on the morning of the 3rd, Leader Jang stated, “The special prosecutor ambushed the heart of our floor, the office of the floor leader and the national operations bureau, yesterday,” and added that it was “a low and vile political maneuver to break the arms and legs of the People Power Party headquarters and to gag the opposition.”

Jang further stated, “Ironically, the search yesterday clearly showed that the Democratic Party’s labeling of us as a rebellion party was just an empty shell,” and remarked, “The intention to scour the People’s Power Party floor leader’s office for evidence of what supposedly happened during a few hours on the evening of December 3 last year reveals that the Democratic Party’s rebellion label is absurd and a groundless provocateur.” He also declared, “Today, September 3rd, will be announced as the end of the rebellion party labeling.”

Spokesperson Park Seong-hoon highlighted that the materials produced from when former floor leader Choo Kyung-ho took office in May of last year were included in the scope of the search by the special prosecutor. He remarked, “If the prosecutors were truly looking at only the relevant issues, they would have requested warrants pertaining to the days of martial law and the day after,” indicating what he saw as impatience from Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok.

Song Eon-seok, the floor leader, also noted, “The prosecutor marked former floor leader Choo Kyung-ho as a suspect, but the warrant failed to specify any particular crimes.” He questioned, “Naturally, who in the People Power Party obstructed the martial law lifting, did they close the doors to the main hall, remove those inside, or call to prevent entry?” Floor leader Song further criticized the investigation, labeling it a “fantasy novel-style investigation based on fiction created by thoughtless individuals.”

The People Power Party accused Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok of failing to properly present the warrant and denying the participation request of an attorney during the search of party staff the previous day. The party announced plans to file a complaint against Cho Eun-seok. Spokesperson Park stated, “We plan to proceed with the complaint as quickly as possible after review by the Special Committee for the Defense of Judicial Justice.”
