The People Power Party and Democratic Party are tied at 36%… 51% support a change in power, while 37% support maintaining the current administration [NBS]

A public opinion survey released on the 27th shows that the support rates for the People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea are the same. According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted by Embrain Public, KSTAT Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research from the 24th to the 26th among 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, each party’s support rate was recorded at 36%.

Compared to the previous survey in the third week of March, the People Power Party’s support increased by 4 percentage points, while the Democratic Party’s support decreased by 2 percentage points.

Regarding the suitability for the next presidency, Lee Jae-myung, the head of the Democratic Party, recorded 31%, Kim Moon-soo, the Minister of Employment and Labor, 8%, Hong Joon-pyo, the Mayor of Daegu, 6%, and both Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, and Han Dong-hoon, the former representative of the People Power Party, recorded 5%.

Responses indicated that 51% believe an opposition candidate should be elected for a power change in the next presidential election, unchanged from last week. 37% said a candidate from the ruling party should be elected for a continuation of the current administration, up by 1 percentage point from last week.

When asked which party’s candidate they would vote for if the presidential election were held this year, 39% said they would choose the Democratic Party’s candidate and 33% said they would choose the People Power Party’s candidate. The support for the Democratic Party candidate decreased by 1 percentage point, while the support for the People Power Party candidate increased by 3 percentage points.

Regarding the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-youl, 58% believe he should be removed from office, while 37% think the impeachment should be dismissed and he should return to his duties. This is a change of a 2 percentage point decrease in support for impeachment and a 2 percentage point increase in opposition compared to the previous week.

51% of respondents expected the president would be removed from office if impeached, down 6 percentage points from last week (57%). On the other hand, 39% believed the impeachment would be dismissed and he would resume his duties, a rise of 5 percentage points from last week (34%).

Trust in the Constitutional Court has rapidly decreased. When asked about their trust in the impeachment trial process, 53% said they trust it, down 7 percentage points from last week (60%). Those who do not trust it increased by 4 percentage points to 40%.

56% of respondents said they would accept the impeachment decision even if it differed from their opinion, while 40% said they would not accept it if it differed. Those willing to accept the decision increased by 1 percentage point, while those unwilling decreased by 2 percentage points from last week.

Regarding President Yoon’s handling of the impeachment trial, 35% said he is doing well, while 58% said he is doing poorly.

This NBS survey was conducted through phone interviews using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 18.0%.
