The National Intelligence Service has warned that there could be terrorist attacks or hacking attempts by North Korea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea this fall. The agency stated that with numerous leaders visiting South Korea for APEC, international terrorist organizations may target them. Additionally, it emphasized that North Korea might engage in information warfare or hacking to disrupt the event.
Information warfare involves spreading false information to lead the enemy to make irrational decisions based on incorrect perceptions. The agency also expressed concerns about North Korea potentially employing a strategy of combining local provocations with information warfare to entrench its adversarial stance and secure a position of leadership in inter-Korean relations.
