“Democratic Party’s parliamentary group called the ‘Lee Jae-myung Presidential Case Prosecution Cancellation and National Investigation Promotion Group’, also known as Gongchimo, announced today (26th) that they will minimize their independent actions and actively participate in the party’s official special committee activities.
Park Sung-joon, the standing representative of Gongchimo, spoke to reporters after meeting with Han Byung-do, the floor leader and committee chair, at the National Assembly in the afternoon. He stated, ‘If Chairman Han reaches out to us to work together, we will eagerly join hands with him.’
Park said, ‘Chairman Han mentioned that he would quickly form the Promotion Committee and hoped that Gongchimo members would join and participate, leading to a positive exchange of ideas.’
He continued, ‘If the lawmakers in Gongchimo decide to participate, the official activities of the group will inevitably recede.’
Previously, after a meeting held at an undisclosed location in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Gongchimo announced their decision to ‘minimize independent actions’ through a public statement.
The Gongchimo operations committee evaluated the party leadership’s decision to establish the ‘Special Committee for Investigating Yoon Seok-youl Administration’s Manipulated Prosecution and Prosecution Cancellation’ as a “substantial achievement of Gongchimo.” They also stated they would “minimize independent actions and actively cooperate with the party’s special committee and national investigation committee, focusing on joint responses.”
However, they emphasized, ‘The group will be maintained until our ultimate goal of prosecution cancellation, declared at its inception, is achieved, and any intention to withdraw will be respected.’
Park mentioned, ‘Although some suggested disbanding since the party’s special committee was formed, most opinions favored maintaining the group to achieve the original goal of canceling the prosecution.’
Regarding concerns about ‘factional conflict’ due to maintaining the group even after the launch of the party’s official entity, Park dismissed the notion, saying, ‘What relevance does Gongchimo have with nomination rights or party power?’
