Sleeping Near the Elevators… Continuing the Sit-in Right After Waking Up
“Demanding the primary opposition party’s 5 million-member list is unprecedented.”
“Facing the sword of opposition eradication… I will protect the People Power Party with the members.”

On the night of the 13th, Kim Moon-soo, a candidate for the leader of the People Power Party (PPP), began an indefinite sit-in at the lobby of the PPP’s central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. He was protesting against the special prosecutor’s attempt to raid the headquarters.

Kim announced on his Facebook page on the 13th that he would start an indefinite sit-in to protect the People Power Party. He stated, “During the festival-like time of the party’s convention, the ruthless special prosecutor Lee Jae-myung attacked the heart of the People Power Party, the central headquarters,” adding, “The special prosecutor made an unreasonable demand for the list of 5 million PPP members and occupied the headquarters all day.”

“Special Prosecutor’s Demand for Member List… Conspiracy to Eradicate the Opposition”

He strongly criticized the current government, claiming, “The three special investigations planned by the Lee Jae-myung regime aim to incapacitate the primary opposition party, the People Power Party, and destroy the constitutional order of South Korea. We have been invaded, and now we stand before the sword of opposition eradication.”

The sit-in, held at the lobby of the PPP headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, was joined by PPP lawmaker Kim Jae-won and youth leader candidate Son Su-jo. The sit-in was broadcasted live on YouTube. Kim lay down to sleep in the corridor in front of the elevator at around 2:40 AM on the 14th, and resumed the sit-in at around 7:30 AM after waking up.

Special Investigation on ‘Mass Entry by Unification Church’ Allegations

On the 13th, a special investigative team led by Min Jung-ki attempted a raid on the People Power Party (PPP) headquarters to investigate allegations related to the First Lady Kim Geon-hee. The special prosecutor suspects that Unification Church leaders, ahead of the PPP’s 2023 party convention, encouraged church members to join as party members to support PPP lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong by providing them with membership forms. The special prosecutor maintains that it is inevitable to verify the PPP’s member list to resolve these allegations.

Kim protested, saying, “Demanding the handover of the entire member list of the primary opposition party is unprecedented in the history of Korean political parties,” and vowed, “I will fight to the end with the members and the people.” The PPP has scheduled an emergency meeting for lawmakers at 10 AM on the 14th to discuss response strategies.
