President Lee Jae-myung, on the 17th (local time), was heading for a group photo with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil at the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in Kananaskis, Canada. This meeting between the South Korean and Brazilian leaders marks the first in ten years since the summit between former President Park Geun-hye and former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in 2015.
The presidential office stated that President Lee and President Lula reaffirmed the need for collaboration on global issues like climate change during their summit. The two leaders agreed to expand their cooperation on the international stage.
President Lee expressed gratitude for Lula’s congratulatory message on his inauguration and praised Brazil for strengthening its status as a key Global South nation under Lula’s leadership. He also emphasized the intention to expand economic cooperation with Brazil, South America’s largest trading partner and investment destination, according to the presidential office.
The presidential office further stated, “Based on their common governance philosophy that emphasizes left-right integration and pragmatism, the two leaders agreed, following this summit, to further develop their comprehensive cooperative partnership.”
