[the300] Jang Je-won, a former member of the People Power Party, recently faced allegations of sexual assault. He announced, “In these critical times, I will temporarily leave the party to avoid burdening it with this unfortunate issue. I will return after clearing my name.”
On the 5th, Jang posted on his social media, “The allegations are false. The accuser claims to have been assaulted by me in November 2015, which is 9 years and 4 months ago. I strongly suspect there is a particular conspiracy or background behind the sudden accusation almost a decade later.”
Jang continued, “I will uncover the truth. I am living quietly in retirement and have no idea why this is happening. I am determined to locate any records or evidence from 10 years ago to legally defend myself.”
He urged the media, “This issue affects my entire life, and as I am now a private citizen, any distorted reports based on the accuser’s unilateral claims will force me to take strict legal action to protect my reputation.”
Jang also stated, “If anyone spreads defamatory language or distorted facts based solely on JTBC’s report, I will take necessary legal actions in civil or criminal court. It seems my challenging and lonely fight is beginning now. I feel heartbroken thinking about those who have placed great expectations on me. I will overcome this.”
