President Lee’s approval rating stands at 54.8%… Democratic Party at 45.6% and People Power Party at 37.4% [Realmeter]

Lee Jae-myung’s Approval Rating Drops by 1.1 Percentage Points

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Ahn Jung-hoon = A poll released on the 1st revealed that President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating for state affairs dropped by 1.1 percentage points (p) to 54.8% from the previous week.

In a survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of the Energy Economic News from the 24th to the 28th of last month, 54.8% of respondents positively rated President Lee’s performance. His approval rating had shifted to an upward trend in the previous survey but declined again after a week.

The proportion of respondents with a negative evaluation rose by 0.2%p to 40.7% compared to the previous week.

Realmeter analyzed that President Lee initially saw positive effects from his diplomatic achievements at the G20 summit, but public opinion deteriorated midway due to political backlash regarding the 15-year indictment of former Prime Minister Han Deok-su and the parliamentary approval of the arrest motion for legislator Choo Kyung-ho, interpreted as political retaliation and oppression of the opposition. Additionally, the burden of high foreign exchange rates and interest rates, such as the won-dollar exchange rate reaching an all-time high, was also cited as a factor for negative evaluations.

In a political party support survey conducted nationwide on 1,012 people aged 18 and over from the 27th to the 28th of last month, the Democratic Party garnered 45.6%, while the People Power Party recorded 37.4%.

The Democratic Party’s support dropped by 1.9%p from the previous week, whereas the People Power Party’s support rose by 2.6%p.

Support for the Progressive Innovation Party stood at 3.1%, the Reform Party at 3.5%, and the Progressive Party at 1.4%.

Both surveys were conducted using an automated phone response method.

The margin of error for the presidential approval rating survey was ±1.9%p at a 95% confidence level, and the margin of error for the party support survey was ±3.1%p at a 95% confidence level.

The response rates were 5.2% for the presidential approval survey and 4.5% for the party support survey. For more details, please refer to the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
