Park Geun-hye visits the birthplace of her mother, Yuk Young-soo, on the 50th anniversary of her death.

Former President Park Geun-hye visited her mother’s birthplace in Okcheon, Chungbuk, a day before the 50th anniversary of her mother, the late Yuk Young-soo’s death on August 14, 2024. This visit to Okcheon was a private event with only a few people, including Park Deok-heum, a member of the People Power Party, Hwang Gyu-cheol, the mayor of Okcheon County, and some relatives attending to pay their respects. Yuk Young-soo’s birthplace in Okcheon, where she spent her childhood before marrying former President Park Chung-hee, holds events annually to commemorate her birthday on November 29 and her death anniversary on August 15. Yuk Young-soo tragically passed away on August 15, 1974, after being shot by a North Korean sympathizer at the celebration of National Liberation Day in Jangchung-dong’s National Theater in Seoul.
