Park Chan-dae: “The Constitutional Court should designate the sentencing date today… It should unanimously rule for dismissal.”

“Choi, Too Absorbed in Presidential Role… Must Work to Correct ‘Sensitive Country’ Designation”

In a statement directed at the Constitutional Court on the 17th, Park Chan-dae, floor leader for the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the court to “designate a sentencing date today as the last bastion of the Constitution and democracy.”

Park mentioned at the supreme council meeting held in the main building of the National Assembly that morning, “Given the clear evidence that Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law is a grave constitutional violation, I urge the court to fulfill its role decisively by unanimously dismissing the constitutional violator, Yoon Seok-yeol.”

He asserted, “We can no longer neglect social turmoil and public anxiety. Today marks the 21st day since the conclusion of the constitutional judgment arguments on Yoon Seok-yeol’s impeachment. Delayed court rulings are increasingly raising social costs.”

He also stated, “Far-right forces have reached a peak of violence and agitation, and the People’s Power Party’s intimidation of the Constitutional Court has gone too far. If this continues, our society will head towards extreme confrontation.”

Park emphasized the importance of the Constitutional Court performing its role promptly.

Regarding South Korea’s addition to the United States’ ‘Sensitive Country List (SCL)’, Park claimed that “the predominant analysis is that it’s due to Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law and the People’s Power Party’s independent nuclear armament theory,” asserting that “the irresponsible agitation by Yoon Seok-yeol and the People’s Power Party is a significant obstacle to South Korea’s security and economy.”

Furthermore, Park criticized that “even in this situation, People’s Power Party members continue to blame others while still defending the insurgency leaders and denying rebellion, thereby harming national interests.”

Addressing Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Economy and Finance, Park stated, “We cannot avoid criticizing the government’s complacent response, led by Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok. While Choi was absorbed in his presidential role, the government failed to recognize the sensitive country designation for two months.”

He urged, “Deputy Prime Minister Choi bears significant responsibility for exercising veto power over special investigations into insurgency and Myung Tae-kyun investigations, thus hindering the early resolution of the insurgency. It is imperative that he wakes up and makes every effort to amend the situation before the official enactment.”
