Park Beom-gye, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Seo-gu, Daejeon), stated on the 17th that pressuring for a joint acceptance statement regarding the Constitutional Court’s ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment from the ruling party is pointless, saying, “What difference does it make if a joint acceptance declaration is made? It’s not going to be upheld.”
During an appearance on CBS radio’s “Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show,” Park responded to questions about the ruling party’s actions, saying, “The Democratic Party proposed a lot of impeachments and led a lot of legislative actions, but did we ever not comply?”
When the host mentioned discussions within political circles about a joint acceptance declaration over the weekend, Park retorted, “Believe what you want to believe,” noting that if the ruling party had failed in the general elections, the leadership of the ruling People’s Power Party should stand up and persuade the president to change the national policy direction, but they have not done so. He further criticized the ruling party for allegedly inciting and supporting activities akin to rebellion.
He continued, “There are rules and promises, but the key issue is whether they are kept or not. If not, will they go as far as to use military force to seize the National Assembly and the central election commission? How can we trust people who act as if none of this matters? Making promises without practicing them is pointless. What difference does a joint acceptance declaration make if it is not going to be upheld?”
Regarding Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People’s Power Party, who stated the party’s acceptance of the Constitutional Court’s ruling the previous day, Park commented, “He is the one who lies the most. I know him well. If he didn’t lie, he would already be a presidential candidate.”
Park reflected, “Since the presidential election, he, being a close associate and a fellow prosecutor, has risen to the position of floor leader. However, those who know the president well should have dissuaded him from certain actions, including issues related to martial law, then and now,” emphasizing, “It’s not about acceptance. It’s about at least acknowledging the vivid evidence the public witnessed on TV.”
When asked whether Lee Jae-myung’s statement that it was inappropriate to call for unconditional acceptance of the Constitutional Court’s decision during the 2017 impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye is still valid, Park affirmed, “I accept it,” adding, “The Constitutional Court’s decision has remained unwavering regarding the impeachment order for President Yoon. The order for removal by the eight judges of the Constitutional Court is almost unanimous.”
