“On the day of martial law, the 707th Special Mission Group withdrew thousands of live rounds and 100 taser cartridges.”

In the early morning of the 4th, when the National Assembly’s plenary session voted to lift martial law, martial law troops withdrew from the National Assembly.

It has been confirmed that at the time martial law was declared, the 707th Special Mission Battalion of the Army Special Warfare Command removed about 6,000 rounds of ammunition, including live bullets and blanks.

According to materials received by Representative Seo Young-kyo of the Democratic Party from the Special Warfare Command on the 17th, the 707th unit, which was deployed to the National Assembly on the 3rd and 4th, took out a total of 5,940 rounds, including 3,960 regular bullets and 1,980 blanks. It was also revealed that 100 cartridges for taser guns were removed. Taser guns are devices that momentarily disrupt the central nervous system with electricity to incapacitate an opponent.

However, the ammunition that was removed was all brought back in after the martial law situation was resolved.

This matches the testimony of Park An-soo, the martial law commander at the time, to the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly, where he stated that Kwak Jong-geun, the Special Warfare Commander, suggested using tasers and blanks during the deployment of troops to the National Assembly.
