On the morning of the 20th, it was confirmed that one North Korean soldier crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in the area of Goseong, Gangwon Province and surrendered. According to military authorities, our military secured the identity of one person estimated to be from North Korea on the morning of the same day at the eastern front line and handed them over to relevant agencies. The relevant agencies are currently investigating the process of their defection.
The individual who crossed into the operational area of the Army’s 22nd Division in Goseong, Gangwon Province is known to be from the North Korean military, and it was reported that they expressed the intention to defect.
Military authorities have been tracking and monitoring this individual from the moment they crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) north of the eastern front line towards the south.
In the vicinity, loudspeakers broadcasting to North Korea are being conducted. The broadcast runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and North Korea also emits noise through loudspeakers installed recently in the forward area aimed at South Korea.
Earlier on the 8th, one North Korean resident crossed the Inter-Korean Neutral Waters of the Han River Estuary to the south.
