North Korea, Pyongyang New City Plan in Final Year…Construction Speeding Up

North Korea is accelerating construction in Pyongyang to meet its plan of building 10,000 housing units each year, starting from 2021, as the final year of the Pyongyang New Town project approaches.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, military and civilian builders are actively working on the framework construction for 10,000 housing units in the fourth phase of the Hwasong district.

The report highlighted that the Korean People’s Army’s specialized units have enhanced the specialization of phase-specific tasks, which has reduced the time required for constructing each floor compared to previous methods.

Additionally, construction teams from the local industry department and the light industry department are reportedly speeding up their framework construction achievements daily.

In 2021, North Korea announced a plan to build a total of 50,000 housing units in Pyongyang over five years, with 10,000 units constructed each year.
