Na Kyung-won: “The special investigation is a serious constitutional violation and an infringement on human rights… Is this for loyalty to the Lee administration?”

Rep. Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party criticized the special prosecutor’s attempt to forcibly bring in former President Yoon Seok-youl on August 7, calling it a “serious constitutional violation and infringement on human rights.”

On the same day, Rep. Na expressed on her social media that “if the human rights of a former president are being trampled in this manner, it doesn’t appear to be a fair and legal enforcement of the law but rather a severe act of political retaliation.”

She referenced Article 12, Clause 2 of the Constitution regarding the right to refuse to testify and criticized the move to forcibly bring in a former president who had effectively exercised this right, asking, “Is this an attempt to demonstrate loyalty to the Lee Jae-myung administration?”

Furthermore, she described the special prosecutor’s attempt as “a clear case of excessive law enforcement that goes against proportionality, and it seems nothing more than a politically retaliatory investigation. In the end, it’s an act that undermines the credibility of the special prosecutor itself.”

Rep. Na continued, stating, “It appears that a bloody purge reminiscent of an absolute monarchy is taking place in South Korea right now. The special prosecutor is dancing with swords in front of this. Once this frenzied storm subsides, the responsibility will certainly not be light,” she warned.
