Moon Jae-in: “Coup Forces Still Haven’t Reflected… We Must Not Be Complacent”

Former President Moon Jae-in said on the first anniversary of the December 3 martial law incident, “Once again, we remind ourselves of the importance of democracy,” and expressed “deep gratitude to the people.”

On the 3rd, former President Moon stated on Facebook, “The past year was a process of setting straight the shaken democracy.”

He added, “With the light revolution, democracy was protected, and with a mature civic consciousness, South Korea was able to move forward again. I am very proud of our people, who demonstrated amazing democratic resilience to the world.”

However, he pointed out, “The insurgent forces that threw our society into shock and anger still have no reflection or apology,” and “Extreme politics, which incite hatred, enmity, and division, continue to threaten our democracy.”

He further emphasized, “This is why we must not be complacent and need to strengthen democracy further,” urging, “Let us not forget the lessons of that day a year ago, and boldly move toward ‘a strong democracy that no one can shake.'”
