“Minister of National Defense nominee Kim Yong-hyun said today that while the response to the North Korean nuclear threat is based on the ROK-US alliance, all means and methods are open. Kim emphasized that while a response based on expansionary deterrence is the foundation, if it is difficult to handle with that alone, all means and methods are open, responding to questions about the possibility of South Korea’s nuclear armament during his first day at the candidate office set up at the Army headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
Furthermore, Kim added that securing advanced weapons and military cooperation with allied countries are important, but what is more crucial is the morale of our soldiers, especially improving the service conditions and rewards for junior and mid-level officers.
Regarding the political attacks on the Marine Corps private’s death incident, Kim dismissed them as mere political agitation, questioning how they are related to the President’s security and brushed off their relevance.
