Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung raised the maximum amount of 2.94 billion won within a day of opening his sponsorship account. The number of sponsors was around 60,000 people, most contributing less than 100,000 won each.

On the 16th, Lee’s side announced, “Lee Jae-myung’s sponsorship committee reached the legal limit of 2.94 billion won on the first day of fundraising (15th).” According to the committee, over 63,000 people participated in the fundraising that began at 10 am the previous day. Of these, 99% were reported to be small contributors donating less than 100,000 won. Previously, during the 20th presidential election, about 31,000 people supported Lee over two months. The amount raised on the day the account was opened was 985.4 million won.

A committee official stated, “Filling the limit in one day through numerous small donations reflects the miracle of the passionate hearts of citizens wishing for the end of chaos and a new Korea.”

Lee referred to the sponsors as “comrades” and expressed his gratitude. He wrote on his Facebook page, “In just one day, we have reached our fundraising goal,” and expressed deep gratitude to the comrades who supported the cause. He added, “The earnest desire of each person yearning for a new country weighs particularly heavy on me. As always, I will take the lead, enduring wounds and responsibilities to forge new paths. I will always be close to the people.”
