Lee Jae-myung: “The law should be equal for everyone… The whole should not be sacrificed for someone’s obstinacy.”

▲ Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is speaking at the supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 3rd.

Amid the situation where the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is executing an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol and is currently facing a standoff with the presidential security service at the official residence in Hannam-dong, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung stated, “The law is equal for everyone,” and emphasized, “No one should sacrifice the whole for the stubbornness of an individual or the special interests of a group.”

Leader Lee made this statement during the party’s supreme council meeting at the National Assembly this morning (the 3rd).

This is interpreted as an indirect criticism of President Yoon, who through his close aides, has expressed his intention not to comply with the execution of the arrest warrant.

Previously, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, warned in the same meeting, “Anyone who obstructs the execution of the arrest warrant will be punished for obstruction of justice and as an accomplice to treason,” and cautioned the head of the security service, the deputy head, and the Capital Defense Command, saying, “Do not misjudge the situation and cooperate with the execution of the arrest warrant for the leader of treason.”
