Lee Jae-myung: “It’s okay if the People Power Party takes the lead… Please make sure to participate in the national policy council.”

On the 16th, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the People Power Party to join a proposed cooperative body for national stability. Speaking at the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, he stated, “The People Power Party can take the lead in all discussions, and I don’t mind how we decide the name, format, or content.”

Lee continued, “If forming a consultative body on the overall state affairs is burdensome, I request to at least form one focusing on the economy and the people’s livelihood.” He expressed understanding of the challenges within the People Power Party, acknowledging political difficulties but emphasized the purpose of political parties and politics is ultimately for national stability and a better life for the citizens.

He urged, “Please set aside calculations for a moment and quickly decide to join, whether it’s a national stability consultative body or one limited to economic issues.” Previously, Lee proposed the formation of a ‘national stability cooperative body’ involving both the government and the National Assembly. However, the People Power Party rejected it, stating it was inappropriate for the Democratic Party to act as if it were the ruling party.
