Lee Jae-myung: “‘Han Dong-hoon’s medical school expansion delay proposal is an unavoidable alternative.”

The leader of the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, stated that the proposal by the leader of the People Power Party, Han Dong-hoon, to postpone the increase in medical school admissions is one of the inevitable alternatives to address the medical shortage crisis. He demanded that the government consider other options instead of just rejecting it outright.

During the Supreme Council meeting, Lee Jae-myung mentioned that rather than increasing the number of medical students by a thousand within 5 years, there is also a method to gradually increase the number over a period of 10 years. He questioned the basis for the need for an additional 2,000 medical students.

He further criticized the government’s plan to increase patient cost-sharing to spread out mild cases among different hospitals, saying that many patients and families may still be left waiting in ambulances unable to access emergency rooms at this moment. He suggested that it may be more effective to have police stationed in front of emergency rooms for security checks instead of implementing such ineffective measures, emphasizing the need for swift implementation of fundamental solutions.
