“The Country is in a Constitutional Crisis: Unable to Suppress Rebellion,” “In This Situation, It’s Better to Restructure the National Assembly”
– On March 24, Lee Eon-ju, a senior member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the delayed ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment, suggesting, “If necessary, all members of the National Assembly, including those from both ruling and opposition parties, should resign and hold a new general election.”
– During the Democratic Party’s Supreme Council meeting held at Gwanghwamun, Lee stated, “The Constitutional Court continues to delay (the ruling on Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment). If any of its members have different thoughts, we have no choice but to directly ask the people for their final opinion.”
– Lee questioned, “What significance is there in wearing a badge in a country that can’t suppress rebellion and is dragging its feet in a constitutional crisis?”
– She argued, “Given this level of rebellion, it would be better to restructure the National Assembly, organize the system, and make a fresh start. This is neither a conservative nor progressive issue, nor is it about factions or regions.”
– Lee emphasized, “We cannot stand by and watch a few elites’ narrow thinking destroy our economy and cause disadvantages to the people. They must be held accountable and make responsible decisions.”
– She added, “When the head of the executive branch has destroyed constitutional order, and even the judiciary is passive in protecting the constitution, what other options do we have? The Constitutional Court should quickly dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol and set up new leadership in Korea to restore political and economic vitality before it’s too late.”
