The leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, made a statement targeting Deputy Prime Minister and Acting President Choi Sang-mok, saying, “Anyone can arrest him as a red-handed offender of dereliction of duty.” In response, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, retorted, “It’s Lee who is actually a current offender of intimidation and incitement to rebellion.”
Kwon Seong-dong held an unscheduled press conference this afternoon, stating, “I was briefly confused whether these words came from the leader of the largest opposition party or a terrorist like IS,” and criticized, “Lee is actually a current offender of intimidation and, having threatened the acting president, a current offender of incitement to rebellion.”
He further added, “I wonder what makes Lee so anxious that he resorts to intimidation. Let’s talk honestly. I have serious concerns about whether he will accept the Constitutional Court’s impeachment ruling and the verdict of his own trial. I urge him to stop the petty threats immediately and declare his acceptance.”
Earlier in the morning, Lee Jae-myung held a meeting of the party’s Supreme Council at a tent protest in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, and criticized Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok for delaying the appointment of Constitutional Court Justice nominee Ma Eun-hyuk, stating, “Acting President Choi is a red-handed offender of dereliction of constitutional duty, and anyone, whether the police or the public, can arrest him immediately. Be cautious.”
