Kim Sung-han, Park Jin, and bipartisan delegations all head to the United States… Contact with Trump’s team

**Former National Security Office Director Kim Sung-han and Former Foreign Minister Park Jin Attend ‘9th Korea-U.S. Strategic Forum’ Hosted by CSIS**

A bipartisan delegation, including key foreign and security policymakers from the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, such as former National Security Office Director Kim Sung-han and former Foreign Minister Park Jin, will soon visit the U.S. in response to Donald Trump securing a return to the presidency.

According to a report compiled on the 11th by CBS No Cut News, individuals like Kim Sung-han, Park Jin, Kim Seok-ki, the chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee from the People Power Party, alongside committee secretaries Kim Geon (People Power Party) and Kim Young-bae (Democratic Party), and members Wi Seong-lak, Lee Jae-gang, Jo Jeong-sik (Democratic Party) will attend the 9th Korea-U.S. Strategic Forum hosted by the Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C. on November 18-19 (local time).

These attendees plan to discuss and present South Korea’s stance on advancing the Korea-U.S. alliance under the second Trump administration. Former Minister Park Jin is also set to give a special lecture on the prospects of Korea-U.S. relations post the U.S. presidential election at George Washington University on November 15.

Their visit is noteworthy since it occurs immediately following Trump’s confirmed re-election, raising interest in how they will engage with Trump’s close aides. Park Jin, who cultivated friendships with Trump’s associates during his tenure as Foreign Minister and a member of the National Assembly, is expected to attempt behind-the-scenes contacts. He is known for his connections with Senator Bill Hagerty, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Reince Priebus, former White House Chief of Staff.

Kim, who was the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs during the first Trump administration, is connected to Allison Hooker, a former senior adviser at the National Security Council (NSC). Similarly, Wi, a former diplomat who worked during the Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Lee Myung-bak administrations, has ties with Steve Yates, former East Asia policy adviser in the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney.

This delegation is anticipated to discuss a wide range of topics in meetings with Trump associates, including the development of the Korea-U.S. alliance, trilateral security cooperation with Japan, North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, U.S. Forces Korea, defense cost-sharing, and the maintenance and repair (MRO) operations for U.S. Navy vessels.
