At a recent National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit session, Kang Hye-gyeong, who raised allegations involving Kim Geon-hee, the wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, spoke about claims regarding her alleged interference in party nominations. Kang testified that the political broker Myung Tae-kyun, known for his close ties with Kim, was involved in influencing the nomination of lawmaker Kim Young-sun.
Kang alleged that despite discussing financial coverage for opinion polls with Myung, who was supposed to receive money, he claimed that Kim, instead of providing financial support, secured a nomination for Kim Young-sun. Kang also disclosed that during the past presidential election, her research institute conducted opinion polls 81 times, including public opinion surveys.
She further claimed that cooperation between party leaders led by figures like Lee Jun-seok and Yoon Sang-hyun designated a strategic nomination area in Changwon, and Kim was instrumental in granting nominations. Kang also revealed that the total cost of the opinion polls provided to President Yoon was 375 million won.
Moreover, Kang criticized Kim Yeong-sun and Myung Tae-kyun for their involvement in politics, labeling them as dishonest and cited this as her motivation to appear at the audit. She also suggested that Kim paid Myung part of her salary for his contribution to securing her nomination, amounting to 96 million won.
During the testimony, Kang mentioned instances where Myung allegedly boasted of his relationship with Kim, stating she referred to President Yoon as a “blind warrior,” signaling that despite his blindness, he skillfully wields power. Kang added that Myung frequently conversed spiritually with Kim, asserting that she was a shaman who should remain outside the public eye, manipulating from the shadows.
Kang recounted hearing about the abrupt resignation of Lee Dong-hun, a former spokesperson, being influenced by Myung, who suggested that the energy between Lee and Kim was incompatible. She asserted that Myung manipulated Kim to enforce Lee’s resignation. Additionally, when asked about hearing a recorded phone conversation between Myung and Kim, Kang confirmed and recounted Kim saying, “Brother, you’ve called, right? Everything will be okay.”
Finally, when queried about whom “brother” referred to, Kang speculated that it meant President Yoon.
