Jang Dong-hyuk: “The president’s trial will resume… A general meeting at the detention center is not far off.”

Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 23rd that the day will soon come when the trial of President Lee Jae-myung will resume by the judgment of the people, and the Democratic Party’s parliamentary general meeting will be held in a detention center.

During the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Jang criticized the Democratic Party’s move to pursue a special investigation regarding the prosecutor’s alleged “fabricated indictment,” saying, “They want to entrust the case of defendant Lee Jae-myung to a special prosecutor appointed by defendant Lee Jae-myung himself,” and added, “Isn’t this self-appointment of a special prosecutor to dismiss the indictment embarrassing?”

Jang further commented on the “National Assembly Special Committee for Fact-Finding on the Alleged Fabricated Indictment by the Political Prosecution of the Yoon Seok-yeol Administration,” expressing surprise at witnessing the first successful national investigation since his entrance to the National Assembly. He claimed that the investigation successfully exposed the reality behind the Lee Jae-myung North Korea remittance case and the Daejang-dong scandal within ten days, thanks to the ardent efforts of conservative leader Seo Young-kyo and Democratic Party lawmakers.

Furthermore, he pointed out that prison guards confirmed that the salmon alcohol party was nonsense by playing recorded conversations and criticized Democratic Party legislators for resorting to accusations of perjury, shouting, interrupting, and intimidating witnesses when responses didn’t align with their expectations.

Jang also mentioned that the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) issued a warning regarding the judicial destruction under the Lee Jae-myung administration. He questioned if the Democratic Party, trying to prevent Lee from going to jail, would now claim that the OECD is siding with the prosecution.

Regarding contemporary real estate issues, such as the abolition of the long-term ownership special deduction on capital gains tax, he criticized the government for artificially inflating house prices and then excessively taxing the public. He lamented that homeowners, after working hard their whole lives to buy a house, cannot keep it due to the property tax burden, and if they sell, they face heavy capital gains taxes, forcing them to move to smaller homes. Meanwhile, with the disappearance of jeonse (a lump-sum rental deposit system) and soaring monthly rents, he argued that the situation is dire for citizens without homes.

Jang concluded by labeling the current administration as a “bandit regime” that robs citizen’s properties rather than protecting them and emphasized that choosing the People Power Party in the upcoming local elections is the only way to protect one’s home.
