GNP Emergency Measures Committee chief Hwang Woo-yeo has instructed the party’s general election manifesto task force to “approach the making of the textbook to be used in the next election with the mindset of risking one’s life.” Hwang met with TF chief Jo Jeong-hoon this morning at the party’s Yeouido office and conveyed the message, “I will not interfere, so please create the manifesto with conviction,” according to Jo.
Hwang emphasized the need for “tremendous self-reflection” in light of the party’s defeat in the general election and urged to focus on becoming a winning party in the future rather than dwelling on past debates. He also called for a comparison with the Democratic Party in terms of strategy, tactics, and battle multi-dimensions, as well as for comprehensive consideration of opinions from defeated candidates and party members.
Regarding the completion timeline of the general election manifesto, Jo explained, “We are vigorously working towards completing the manifesto and plan to publicly announce the results to the press and the public by mid-June.” He also mentioned that they have not yet received the official results of the survey conducted last week and will consider extending the deadline if more than half of the candidates respond.
Jo further mentioned plans to hold meetings with former party leaders such as Han Dong-hoon, former chairman of the Supreme Council, and Jung Young-hwan, former chief of candidate management, as well as with the presidential office, stating that they are coordinating schedules with Chairman Chung and seeking opinions from multiple members.
He added that they will begin a process of listening to regional opinions starting next week, starting with Seoul and then moving to Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Honam regions, where the party lost in the general election.
