Han Dong-hoon: “Public demands regarding Mrs. Kim should be addressed before the sentencing of Lee Jae-myung in November.”

**”If We Fail to Change and Renew Now, We Will Face a Democratic Party Regime
Told President Yoon that the Special Inspector Recommendation Procedure Will Be Proceeded”**

Hoon Han, leader of the People Power Party, stated during an extended executive meeting at the National Assembly on the 23rd, mentioning the fact that the first trial verdict for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, regarding the violation of the Public Official Election Act will be announced next month on the 15th. He said, “By that time, we must have addressed the public’s demands regarding Mrs. Kim Keon-hee.”

In his keynote speech at the meeting, Han emphasized, “If issues concerning Mrs. Kim are still the public’s top grievances when gathered together like they are now, we will not win the support of the public who left the Democratic Party, just like in the story of Omelas.”

Han asserted that “the precondition that the recommendation of the chair for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation is necessary for the recommendation of the special inspector is hard to resonate with the public in the current situation.” He added, “We will strongly demand the Democratic Party to recommend the board members for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation and ensure it happens, but we won’t delay the special inspector nomination procedure until after that.”

He further stated, “This is not a promise with the Democratic Party, but with the public,” and noted, “I mentioned during the meeting with the president that we will practically proceed with the special inspector recommendation process.”

Han also warned, “If we don’t manage to change and renew now, we will end up facing a Democratic Party regime.”

The People Power Party has maintained that the nomination for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation should be matched with the recommendation for a special inspector candidate, which the Democratic Party has not been responsive to. However, Han seems to be of the thought to pursue the special inspector nomination process regardless of the North Korean Human Rights Foundation’s board nominations. The special inspector is responsible for inspecting irregularities involving the president’s relatives and is appointed by the president from among three candidates recommended by the National Assembly.
