Han Dong-hoon: “If Lee Jae-myung is innocent, instead of ‘intimidating judges with protests,’ we should say ‘let’s broadcast the trial live.'”

On the 10th, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, targeted Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is facing two first-instance rulings this month, stating, “If he is innocent, instead of engaging in ‘intimidation protests against judges,’ he should propose ‘live broadcasting of the trials.'”

Han made this statement on social media, asserting, “If there is no guilt and a verdict of innocence is expected, no event would benefit the Democratic Party politically more than a live broadcast.” He made this claim as the first trial verdict for Lee’s alleged violation of the Public Official Election Act is scheduled for the 15th, and the first trial verdict for his alleged perjury incitement case is set for the 25th. Han has been consistently advocating for the live broadcast of these verdicts. He argued, “The Democratic Party is adamant about not allowing live broadcasts because they themselves believe in the guilt. That’s why they have resorted to ‘intimidation protests against judges’ to turn a guilty verdict into an innocent one.”

Additionally, Han criticized the Democratic Party’s weekend protests, linking them to the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU). He said, “Since court verdicts will continue, I hear the Democratic Party plans another ‘intimidation protest against judges’ next week. Does this mean they intend to disturb the peaceful weekends of beautiful Seoul with violence, in collaboration with the KCTU, for years until all verdicts on Lee’s alleged crimes are concluded?”
