Han Dong-hoon “Earth Day Must Be Revived”… Lee Jae-myung Also Agrees

Han Dong-hoon, former acting chairman of the People Power Party, seems to be leaning towards running in the party’s national convention. He expressed that it is necessary to revive the local factions. Even rookie politicians without money should be given a path to engage in politics. Lee Jae-myung, the current leader of the Democratic Party, also seems to be in favor, so it could gain momentum. This is reporter Choi Soo-yeon.

It is reported that Han Dong-hoon, the former acting chairman of the People Power Party, recently advocated for the revival of local factions at a meeting of elected and defeated candidates from the general election. He proposes establishing an official sub-organization within the party that can have offices in each district and receive sponsorship funds for activities. The current district-based party meetings cannot even operate offices, and they can only receive sponsorship funds during elections.

Reviving the local factions is part of a plan by a former chairman to create a party focused on the metropolitan area and youth. He reportedly stated, “If local factions are established, the party can send money down with a premise of absolute transparency, allowing politicians without money and outsider figures to continue their political activities.”

A party official conveyed, “The former chairman believes that the current party, which recruits youth for each election, has no future.”

“Just as the saying goes that even a monkey falling from a tree is still a monkey, but a politician who loses an election is no longer a human being, I believe (the former chairman) holds the view that this is unreasonable.”

Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader, also supports the revival of local factions. The leader’s side explained, “Local factions are essential for political activities in remote areas without incumbents.”

However, there are also opinions that as the local factions were abolished due to the “political vendetta” of the former Grand National Party, transparent accounting practices should be a prerequisite.
