On the 7th, Democratic Party lawmaker Go Min-jung criticized author Yoo Si-min, who had targeted non-Lee Jae-myung figures for their harsh words against party leader Lee Jae-myung. She stated, “The Democratic Party’s path to downfall started a long time ago.”
During an appearance on MBC Radio’s “Kim Jong-bae’s Focus” on the same day, Go said, “For the past few years, the person with the most power in the National Assembly has undeniably been Leader Lee. This means that in a democratic society, it should be natural to satirize and criticize from time to time.”
She continued, “However, over the past few years, whenever someone made critical remarks, they were continuously met with disdain and ridicule as ‘watermelons’. I would like to ask what role author Yoo Si-min played during that time.”
Go further criticized the current state under President Yoon Seok-yeol and those around him, along with the ruling People Power Party, for their unwavering support, stating that it has raised significant public concern.
She also drew parallels with her own party, suggesting that, although Lee Jae-myung isn’t as oppressive or violent as President Yoon, the symptoms aren’t vastly different, criticizing the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction.
The lawmaker emphasized the need for Leader Lee to embrace and integrate diverse opinions. She scrutinized the environment in which dissenting opinions faced repercussions, questioning how criticism could thrive under such circumstances.
Go warned of the growing phenomenon of silencing opinions within the Democratic Party, which she claimed has been ongoing for quite some time. She stressed that overcoming and preventing this should be a continuous effort by the party, as it affects not just them but the entire country.
She expressed concern that children might learn to hide their opinions and follow the majority to avoid backlash, emphasizing a need to end societal hatred and animosity, and called on politicians from all parties to collaborate on this issue.
