Filled with pro-Jang and anti-Korean figures… Appointment of People’s Power Nomination Management Committee members.

**Composition of 10 Members Completed… 6 Women, 5 from the 30s and 40s Generation**

The People’s Power Party’s Nomination Management Committee for the June 3 local elections, chaired by Lee Jung-hyun, completed the selection of its 10 members on the 19th and is now gearing up for the election. Among the 10 committee members, 6 are women, and 5 are young members from the 30s and 40s generation.

The People’s Power Party held a supreme council meeting at the National Assembly this morning and approved the agenda of appointing the committee members. Lee Jung-hyun, the chairman, who hails from Honam, was appointed on the 12th. He has served as a member of the National Assembly three times and held positions as the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs and Public Communication under the Park Geun-hye administration. Party Secretary-General Jeong Hee-yong will participate as the deputy chairman.

In the parliament, first-term female parliamentarians Seo Ji-young (Busan Dongnae) and Choi Soo-jin (proportional representation) were appointed as committee members. Seo, a former party official, entered the 22nd National Assembly and served as a spokesperson. She was appointed by Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk as the head of promotions after serving as the deputy chief of organization under the Song Eon-seok interim leadership. Choi was recruited as a ‘national talent’ in the science and bio fields ahead of the 2024 general election. Last month, she was appointed as the organization chair for Jung-seong-dong, a position left vacant by the expulsion of former member Lee Hye-hoon. Seo and Choi are considered close to Chairman Jang.

Outside the parliament, Yoon Yong-geun, the party chairman for Seongnam-Jungwon, became a committee member. Yoon, a former legal professional, is currently serving as the vice-chairman (secretary) of the People’s Power Party’s Committee for the Management of Outlying Party Areas. He recently demanded an apology from former Chairman Han Dong-hoon following the expulsion decision by the party’s ethics committee regarding the party bulletin board incident. Yoon and 19 other outside party chairpersons issued a statement saying, “Denying the ethics committee’s decision undermines the party system and weakens local election competitiveness. Now is the time to present alternatives to defeat the major opposition party instead of causing internal conflicts.”

The remaining 5 committee members are from the 1980s and 1990s generations. Kim Bo-ram (43), a director of the Korean Policy Association, Song Seo-yul (37), the representative of the policy research group Team.Fe, Lee Ha-na (42), an adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University, and Hwang Soo-rim (35), the representative lawyer at Sobaek Law Firm, will participate as women and youth members. Lee Dong-geon (36), a member of the Central Party’s Elective Public Officer Evaluation Committee, will also join. He previously served as an administrative officer at the Presidential Secretariat’s Legal Affairs Office.

Lee Jung-hyun, the committee chairman, stated on Facebook, “We intend to begin the transformation in nominations with generational change, era change, and political change,” announcing that “60% are in their 30s and 40s and 60% are women.” He added, “We composed 50% from within the party and 50% from outside and minimized current National Assembly members’ participation to three, including the obligatory Secretary-General. We did not consider factions or regions in the selection, only the ability to collaborate on innovative nominations.”
