Democratic Party’s Plan for Power Headquarters: ‘4 Headquarters + 1 Committee’… A ‘Transition Committee’ System with Yoon’s Impeachment in Mind

Formation of Planning Headquarters and Regime Change Committee

First meeting held… “First project is culture”

The Democratic Party of Korea is actively operating its governance plan headquarters, while also building up momentum for the potential impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. As the first trial verdict for party leader Lee Jae-myung’s cases of violating the Public Official Election Act and perjury is about a month away, the party is also focusing on shielding against judicial risks.

The Democratic Party’s Governance Plan Headquarters held its first meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of the 23rd. Kim Min-seok, a senior committee member who is serving as the general director, stated, “We will lead the party’s stance on livelihood issues, referred to as ‘Feedism,’ and broaden participation both within and outside the party. The first policy project will start with culture through seminars,” adding, “This will serve as a signal of cultural-leading growth strategy and a dignified basic society for the party and Leader Lee.”

Within political circles, there is analysis suggesting that the Democratic Party’s Governance Plan Headquarters functions as a de facto transition committee with an eye on impeaching President Yoon. It is organized into a ‘4 Headquarters + 1 Committee’ structure, which includes the Planning Situation Headquarters, Policy Agreement Headquarters, Feedism Headquarters, Party Member Sovereignty Headquarters, and the ‘100,000 Model Party Members Regime Change Committee.’

Kang, former special advisor to the party’s leader, who previously chaired the National Innovation Conference – the largest pro-Lee Jae-myung organization within the Democratic Party, joined as a deputy director of the Party Member Sovereignty Headquarters, adding more strength to fortifying Leader Lee’s external organizations.

Democratic Party Floor Leader Park Chan-dae also held a meeting with the authors of the book “Prosecutor Republic, Korea” at the National Assembly to discuss responses to prosecutorial dictatorship. Park stated, “The prosecution is focused on bringing down Leader Lee rather than seeking the truth,” and emphasized, “The Democratic Party will ensure that political prosecutors have no place in the future.” Leader Lee is awaiting the first trial verdict on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and perjury on November 15 and 25, respectively. The “Civil Empathy Forum,” which includes about 40 Democratic Party lawmakers, also held a “Second Consecutive Forum for the Realization of Judicial Justice” the previous day.
