The Democratic Party is set to reintroduce the ‘Kim Geon-hee & Myung Tae-kyun Special Investigation Bill’ and the ‘Rebellion Special Investigation Bill.’
On the 25th, Democratic Party spokesperson Kim Sung-hoe met with reporters after the party’s supreme council meeting and announced the intention to introduce the rebellion and Kim Geon-hee special investigation bills in the afternoon. The goal is to have them passed by the Legislative and Judiciary Committee in early May and processed in the plenary session by June.
The Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation Bill is planned to be proposed in combination with the Myung Tae-kyun Special Investigation Bill. Additionally, allegations surrounding Geonjin Monk, known for flaunting close ties with former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife, will be consolidated into a single investigation.
Spokesperson Kim explained that the Chae Sang-byeong Special Investigation Bill has already been proposed, thus forming the three major special investigation bills: rebellion, Kim Geon-hee, and Chae.
The Democratic Party has previously twice submitted a rebellion special investigation bill aimed at probing all suspicions related to the December 12–13 incidents, but these were not passed due to the government’s exercise of veto and subsequent parliamentary re-votes. The Kim Geon-hee and Myung Tae-kyun special investigation bills have also been dismissed four times and once, respectively.
This time, the Democratic Party’s re-proposed special investigation bills will likely be pushed for voting in the plenary session post the June 3 presidential election, considering the possibility of a governmental veto.
