Democratic Party: “Han Deok-soo, do not follow in the footsteps of the Five Eulsa Traitors and immediately appoint the Constitutional Court justices.”

The Democratic Party of Korea has urged Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to appoint a Constitutional Court judge without delay, as soon as the nomination agreement is sent to the government by the National Assembly. Park Chan-dae, the party’s floor leader, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that “50 million citizens are watching” and warning against delaying the appointment, referring to this period as the last tolerable deadline.

Jin Sung-joon, the party’s policy committee chair, criticized the acting president for not having directed thorough investigations or progressed with the appointment of a special prosecutor promptly, delaying decisions for over ten days. Jin emphasized the need for the immediate appointment of the Constitutional Court judge following the completion of the National Assembly’s procedural recommendations.

Park Sung-joon, Deputy Floor Leader, reiterated that appointing the judge is an obligation, not a choice, and urged Han to fulfill his duty to complete the nine-justice system, calling it a historical mandate.

The Democratic Party announced that Han’s deadline is until the morning of the 27th. If the appointment is not made by then, they plan to initiate impeachment proceedings immediately and aim for passage in the National Assembly by the afternoon. However, debates over required quorum numbers could affect the proceedings.
