In summary, the support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol has decreased slightly while opposition has increased, amid delays in the impeachment ruling. As of the latest survey conducted jointly by Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, 58% believe President Yoon should be removed from office through impeachment, a decrease of 2 percentage points from the previous week where it stood at 60%. Meanwhile, 37% are against impeachment, favoring his return to office, marking a 2 percentage point increase from the previous 35%.
The survey also highlights that only 51% expect the impeachment to be upheld, down 6 percentage points from the previous week’s 57%, whereas 39% believe the impeachment will be overturned, up 5 percentage points from 34%.
These shifts are attributed to the perception that the likelihood of the impeachment being overturned has increased due to the delays in the Constitutional Court’s ruling. Initially, the impeachment verdict was expected around March 14 but may extend to early April.
Public trust in the Constitutional Court has also declined, with 53% expressing trust in its handling of the impeachment process, a decrease of 7 percentage points from the previous 60%.
This survey was conducted from March 24 to 26 with 1,001 adults aged 18 and older through phone interviews using mobile phone numbers provided by the three major telecommunications companies in Korea, with a response rate of 18% and a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
