Candidate Lee Jin-suk for Radio and Television Commission Chairperson: “Broadcasting Called with a Weapon, Not with Air”

On the morning of the 4th, the candidate for the new chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, Lee Jin-sook, expressed her thoughts at a personnel briefing held at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul.

“President Yoon Suk-yeol replaced three ministerial-level officials and six deputy minister-level officials, including the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission,” said Chief Secretary Jung Jin-seok during a briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan.

Lee Jin-sook, former president of MBC, was nominated as the candidate for the new chairman of the Korea Communications Commission. Chief Secretary Jung evaluated her, who has a long career in the media industry as a former MBC reporter and head of the news department, as someone suitable to normalize the operations of the Korea Communications Commission based on her experience and drive in the media industry, ensuring fairness and public service in broadcasting to restore public trust.

In her remarks, the candidate mentioned the role of the media in society and emphasized the importance of maintaining media integrity and public trust. She also addressed concerns about the control of the media by the government and emphasized the need for independence from political and commercial pressures.

Additionally, Kim Wan-seob, former vice minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, was nominated as the Minister of Environment, and Kim Byung-hwan, former vice minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, was nominated as the head of the Financial Services Commission. Chief Secretary Jung explained that the nominees were selected based on their expertise in addressing current economic challenges related to climate change and advancing financial industry development and stability.

President Yoon also nominated six deputy minister-level officials, including the head of the Personnel Innovation Office, the first vice minister of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, the deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the director of the Rural Development Administration, the director of the Korea Forest Service, and the director of the National Museum of Korea in the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
