Chu Kyung-ho, floor leader of the People Power Party, revealed on the 19th that he proposes openly that the Judiciary and Legislative Affairs Committee and the Steering Committee should take turns leading for one year each.
Chu said in a meeting with reporters in the morning at the National Assembly on the same day, “The Judiciary Committee has ignored traditions so far to save Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.” He also added, “The Steering Committee has been under the responsibility of the ruling party since 1987, respecting that tradition. I proposed returning the Steering Committee back to the ruling party, but they said it’s practically difficult.”
Chu said, “Until the end, we propose revisions because the process of compromise in dialogue and concession is cooperation. Our revision proposal is to have the Democratic Party lead the Judiciary and Steering Committees for the first year and then have our party, the People Power Party, take over for the next year.”
He continued, “The Democratic Party has consistently adhered to their position without change or yielding even in underground negotiations,” and expressed, “We have had many negotiations with the opposing party in the National Assembly, but this is the first time. I am truly disappointed.”
He emphasized, “The Speaker of the National Assembly and the Democratic Party should seriously consider our sincere revision compromise proposal,” adding, “We presented a compromise proposal to move towards the politics and appearance of the National Assembly that the people desire.”
Earlier, the Democratic Party, which monopolized the chairmanships of 11 standing committees including the Judiciary and Legislative Affairs Committee and the National Defense Committee, plans to complete the selection of the remaining 7 committee chairmen at this week’s plenary session.
