In the October 16 by-election for Gokseong county governor, Jeollanam-do, Chosangrae of the Democratic Party was elected.

According to the vote counting status from the Central Election Management Committee on the 16th, as of 10 PM, candidate Cho secured over 8,700 votes, achieving a majority among the 15,908 total voters.

Born in Gokseong, candidate Cho graduated from the Sociology Department at Sungkyunkwan University and entered politics in 2006 as a Jeonnam provincial council member during the 4th civil election, serving twice as a provincial council member. He then ran for Gokseong county governor in the 7th and 8th civil elections as a member of the Democratic Peace Party and as an independent, respectively, but finished second both times. After the annulment of Lee Sang-cheol’s election as Gokseong county governor due to violations of the Public Official Election Act, Cho ran a third time in this 8th civil re-election and was elected as the Democratic Party candidate.

Having initially started this re-election campaign as an independent, Cho’s return to the Democratic Party was accepted and he was selected as the Democratic Party candidate through a primary that involved 100% public participation.

Upon winning, Cho, who will begin his term immediately, stated, “I will bring changes to Gokseong not with words but with actions, by implementing policies rather than just promises,” and pledged to “make every effort to never disappoint.”
