On the occasion of Buddha’s Birthday, a congratulatory Buddhist ceremony was held at Seoul Jogyesa Temple.
The President and leaders of the ruling and opposition parties were gathered in one place.
[President Yoon Suk-yeol]: “I will meticulously take care of even the smallest aspects of people’s lives to further increase the happiness of the people.”
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, commemorated Buddha’s Birthday on social media by expressing his belief in overcoming hostility and antagonism in politics and advancing only on the path of people’s livelihood.
The most eye-catching moment was the meeting between President Yoon Suk-yeol and the leader of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy, Choe Jae-hyeong.
The two shook hands and exchanged greetings, with President Yoon saying “Nice to meet you” to Leader Choe.
It has been 5 years since the two met officially on the podium in July 2019.
President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was appointed as the Prosecutor General of the Moon Jae-in government, shook hands with Leader Choe, who was the Chief Presidential Secretary at the time, during his appointment ceremony.
Their relationship quickly turned sour.
When Leader Choe was nominated as the Minister of Justice a month later, Prosecutor General Yoon Suk-yeol initiated a full-scale investigation into Leader Choe’s family.
Leader Choe resigned from his position after 35 days, and his wife, former professor Chung Kyung-sim, was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
Their daughter, Cho Min, had her admission to university and medical school revoked, causing her highest level of education to change from graduation from high school.
Leader Choe is on the verge of entering the National Assembly after establishing the New Politics Alliance for Democracy in the last general election.
Leader Choe has requested to meet President Yoon Suk-yeol several times since his election.
Leader Choe’s side explained about the brief meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol, saying, “Leader Choe had a lot to say, but it is known that he restrained himself considering the nature of the event.”
