Allegations of intervention in the Myung-gong nomination process… Ruling party headquarters raided, a ‘humiliation’

The article discusses a search and seizure conducted by the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office related to allegations of candidate nomination interference involving Myung Tae-kyun within the People’s Power Party (PPP). On November 27, the prosecutors searched the PPP offices in the National Assembly, specifically targeting documents related to the nomination process for seven positions, including those related to former lawmaker Kim Young-sun. This action followed the party’s failure to submit requested documents voluntarily.

The search relates to alleged violations of political funding laws by Kim Young-sun and others concerning the 2022 by-elections and local elections. Prosecutors demanded documents from the party regarding nominations for various positions, including those of certain governors and mayors, as well as issues surrounding preliminary candidates.

Despite the abrupt search, the PPP stated it would cooperate with the investigation while clarifying that some requested documents had already been discarded. PPP officials expressed their surprise at the search, yet maintained a stance of compliance with legal procedures.

Myung Tae-kyun is under suspicion of receiving money in exchange for influencing candidate nominations during the 2022 by-elections, as well as receiving additional funds during the simultaneous local elections.
