**Attending the ‘Day of Fallen Military Personnel with Obligatory Service’ at Daejeon National Cemetery and Giving a Commemorative Speech**
(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Hong Kook-ki = Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duk-soo stated on the 25th, “The free and peaceful daily life we enjoy now is thanks to the dedication of South Korean youth.”
Acting President Han attended the 2nd ‘Day of Fallen Military Personnel with Obligatory Service’ held at the Daejeon National Cemetery on this day, declaring, “In the extraordinary security situation, our youth are willingly dedicating their youth by serving on the front lines of national defense.”
He continued, “Behind the seemingly given everyday life, there has been the sacrifice of countless young people who did not return,” adding, “I hope all citizens become family to these fallen military personnel and deeply cherish their dedication.”
Furthermore, Han emphasized, “Let’s work together so that the proud and vibrant dreams of our youth can fully bloom in this land.”
The government has designated the fourth Friday of every April as ‘Day of Fallen Military Personnel with Obligatory Service,’ a national commemoration day, to remember the young people who died while fulfilling their military duties.
Han assured the bereaved families of the fallen military personnel, “Now, South Korea will remember forever,” emphasizing the national commitment by saying that the day is “not just about remembering, but a promise that the nation will fulfill its responsibility.”
He also promised, “The government will make every effort to honor those who dedicated themselves to the nation and the people, and will do its utmost to support and care for the bereaved families.”
