Hyundai Mobis announced on the 9th that it will expand the supply of the smart card key, currently available for the Ioniq 5N, to major Hyundai models such as the Santa Fe, Tucson, and Grandeur. Despite being only 2.5mm thick, the Hyundai Mobis card-type smart key can perform various functions like opening and closing car doors and opening the trunk with the press of a button. It also supports Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), allowing for remote parking and unparking, and has a button operating range of over 30 meters.
The card key uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless communication. Unlike Near Field Communication (NFC), which requires direct contact, there’s no need to take the card key out of your pocket every time. It contains a lithium-ion battery and can be wirelessly charged when placed next to the driver’s seat, similar to a smartphone.
Hyundai Mobis initially introduced the smart card key earlier this year with the Ioniq 5N model. A Hyundai Mobis representative stated that due to positive consumer feedback, they have decided to expand it to major models. The card key is available for purchase on the Hyundai Shop website and can be used after security certification at nearby Bluehands service centers.
The price is set at 129,000 won, with a 10,000 won discount as a launch event. Hyundai Mobis plans to expand sales to North America next year. Furthermore, a Hyundai Mobis spokesperson mentioned that they plan to release a more luxurious design of the card key as a new product and provide a service where logos and desired phrases can be imprinted on card keys for large-scale corporate vehicles.
