“Agreement on Promoting Tourism Following the Opening of Donghae Jungbu Line Train – Provided by Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization”

Gyeongbuk Province and Gangwon Province have joined hands to promote tourism ahead of the opening of the Donghae Jungbu Line train.

On the 17th, the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Gangwon Tourism Foundation at the Isabu Dokdo Memorial in Samcheok, Gangwon, for “The Promotion of East Coast Tourism Following the Opening of the Donghae Jungbu Line Train.”

The agreement ceremony was organized to pursue marine tourism projects encompassing Gyeongbuk and Gangwon and to increase tourists to the East Coast, in anticipation of the Donghae Jungbu Line opening on the 31st, covering 166.3 km from Pohang in Gyeongbuk to Samcheok in Gangwon.

Through the agreement, both parties will actively cooperate in developing and jointly marketing tourism content linked between Gyeongbuk and Gangwon, creating products and partnership projects for domestic and international users of the Donghae Jungbu Line, and fostering sustainable East Sea ecological preservation and promoting carbon-neutral and fair travel products.

Kim Nam-il, president of the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization, stated, “The opening of the Donghae Line is a turning point that will not only expand tourism exchanges between Gyeongbuk and Gangwon but also present a new paradigm for East Coast tourism, society, and industry. We will develop competitive tourism products by leveraging natural environments and historical resources centered around the East Coast.”

Choi Seong-hyeon, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, emphasized, “This agreement will be an important starting point in exploring new possibilities for the tourism industry and revitalizing the local economy. We will accelerate the development of attractive tourism products encompassing the two regions along the East Coast.”

Meanwhile, through this agreement, the two regions plan to design new themed tourism products such as the ‘East Coast Hwarang Trail’ and ‘Shingwandong Palgyeong.’
